If you follow me on Instagram (of course you do! Right??) you would have seen my feed flooded with all kinds of interesting images the other week, including a spectacular high tea and me in bed. Yes, the life of a blogger sure is difficult! But it wasn’t all Pimms, finger sandwiches and lazing around – I was actually learning a lot!
Thanks to Blog Power Events, I was invited along to the Wenatex Australia HQ to learn all about healthy sleep. WenaWHO?? I hear you ask. Don’t worry, me too. I’d never heard of them before either, but that’s because they’re not capitalist pigs who want to brainwash you into buying their product. They actually care about you, your health and your quality of sleep (which pretty much equals your quality of life) so rather than pour money into advertising they prefer to educate people in a more intimate atmosphere that allows you to actually see, feel and try their products.
But before I get ahead of myself, here’s a little background. Wenatex is an international family business, founded in Salzburg, Austria in 1964. The company expanded to Australia in 2002. And trust me, the rumours are true. Those Austrian’s ARE good in bed! Their complete sleep system includes a bed, mattress, two types of pillows and two different weighted doonas, however you can choose to adopt as much or as little as you like.
I learnt A LOT this day and as someone who suffers with allergies I was actually quite horrified by some of the facts we were presented with. Anne-Marie was wonderful as she explained everything to us and it was amazing to hear her own story and how Wenatex had changed her life (which is why she hounded them for a job for so long!) It also helped that she was utterly hilarious and one of the loveliest people I’ve ever met. I kinda wish an Anne-Marie was also part of the sleep system ha
But anyway, back to the scary stuff! Did you know that the average bed set up (mattress, doona, pillow, etc) is filled with toxic chemicals such as flame retardants, pesticides and herbicides, dyes, formaldehyde and other preservatives?? I had no idea! Even more shocking (if you’re having lunch look away now) is that the average pillow and mattress is filled with dead skin cells and dust mites (and their faeces) and that a mattress can be double its original weight within 10 years just from these skin cells, dust mites and faeces. VOM!!!
Just when I thought I was never going to sleep again they got to the happily ever after part. The Wenatex Sleep System. Using years of scientific research they produced pillows, doonas and quilt covers that use SilverMed woven fibres and an ergonomic foam core of silver zeolite (synthetically produced crystalline alumosilicates) to kill germs and bacteria. The mattress is also made with natural oils and minerals and doesn’t use CFCs or petrochemicals.
We played a few games, drank some Pimms and indulged in the most amazing high tea before having fun playing around in the bed. I was lucky enough to win the most DIVINE sheet! Valued at $180 it is hands down the best thing I have ever slept on. It’s so soft and cosy and really stretchy so it goes on your bed like your favourite tee shirt. It doesn’t pill, it doesn’t stretch and it won’t work its way off the bed.
I was also lucky enough to be sent home with an Ergonomic SilverMed Deluxe Pillow valued at $270. I wanted to sleep on it for a couple of weeks (geddit?) before I reported back and I have to say I’m SUPER impressed! It’s SO comfortable and I’m sleeping better now than I ever have. I must confess, prior to bringing this baby home I slept on three, yes three pillows (don’t judge me). Two normal pillows and a boomerang pillow. Now I only sleep on one normal pillow and this cloud of heaven. I’ve even slept on it just on its own and it was still really comfortable. I’m just taking my time in detaching from my beloved multiple pillows but I have no doubt I’ll get there.
Aaaanyway, I’ll quit making you all jealous and actually offer YOU something! Thanks to the kind folks at Wenatex, you can WIN one SilverMed Plus Classic Pillow valued at $320! ERMAHGERD!!
The outer sleeve of the SilverMed Plus pillow is made from 100% premium cotton-sateen with SilverMed silver fibre woven in. The inner cover is made from cambric cotton with a filling of small, especially mobile climate-controlling fibre balls. They provide perfect comfort and support and keep the pillow elastic and reshapeable. The integrated zip allows for more or less filling depending on your personal preference.
